your personal information. Learn

1) Select a Course
The
Student Information System
page contains information on courses offered in any given semester. This is the
main page for finding information on current courses that can be used to fill
out the
Application for Permission to
Enroll Form and
Class Registration Form for Community Scholar.
You will find
two important resources for course information located on the left hand side of
this page under Enterprise Menu. The
Course Catalog
lists all courses by department or area (whether or not they are offered in a
particular term) and the
Class Search
can be useful in finding a course in a specific term. Further course
descriptions can also be found on the various websites of the academic
departments, found under the Schools tab on the main
University of Virginia
Home Page. Course description information can also be found in the
Undergraduate and
Graduate
Record publications.
Using the
Course Catalog to Obtain Course Information
The Course
Catalog offers information on all courses, whether they are offered in a
particular term or not. It is an easy way to find a course by name or
department. To proceed
with the course catalog:
- Click on the course catalog link and then select a department using the
alphabetical list.
- Once you have selected a department, all of the courses that are offered
in that department are listed, whether or not they are being offered in the
upcoming term. To see if a course is offered for the upcoming term, click on
the course link. If a course is offered in the upcoming term, a green button
that says “View Class Sections” will appear on the right hand side of the
screen. If it is not being offered that term, the notation “This course has not
been scheduled” will appear.
- If a course is active that term, click on the “View Class Sections” link
and the different sections (specific times that a course is offered) will
appear. Select the course section in which you wish to enroll and the “Class
Detail” screen will appear. This page contains the Class Number (11135), Course
Subject and Course Number (CPLT 2010), Course Title (History of European
Literature I), credit hours, and instructor name. All of this information is
used to fill out section two of the
Class Registration Form for Community Scholar. To go back and get out of a particular course section, click on
“Return to Browse Course Catalog” rather than hitting the back button—this will
return you to departmental results.

Using the
Class Search Feature to Obtain Course Information
The Class
Search feature allows you to find information on a course offered in the
upcoming term. To proceed with the class search feature:
- If you know the course number, you can fill it in at the top of the
search form. If not, the simplest method to use is the tool at the bottom of
the page and find the department (Biology, Physics, etc.). A list of courses in
that department will appear. Often the easiest way to find a department is to
click on the magnifying glass to the right of the department field for a full
listing of departments at U.Va.
- Once you have selected a department, all of the courses in that
department that are being offered that term will show up, often it will be more
than 50 courses.
- You may then scroll
down and select the section of the course in which you want to enroll. When you
click on the course section, you will be at the “Class Detail” screen that
provides the information you need to fill out section two of the
Class Registration Form for Community Scholar.
This page contains the Course Subject and Course Number (CPLT 2010), Course
Title (History of European Literature I), credit hours, and instructor name.
All of this information is used to fill out section two of the
Class Registration Form for Community Scholar To go back and get out of a
particular course section, click on “View Search Results” rather than hitting
the back button—this will return you to departmental results.
