Entrepreneurship: Turning Your Idea Into a Business

Course Description: Setting your goals and developing a viable business venture to achieve those goals can be challenging, but the rewards are great. This course will provide the emerging entrepreneur with a structured approach to move from idea to execution. This includes building a plan for creating and managing a business and securing the resources to do so. Through lecture, group work, and extensive open discussion, we will explore the key components that make up a sound business plan including marketing and sales strategies, forecasting and financial planning, staffing, facilities, and asset accumulation. We will also look at forms of business structure, business start-up in Virginia, and sources of capital. Students will leave the course with a draft business plan and the understanding of how to apply the planning process.
