Master of Education, Instruction
(Available at our Southwest Center)
The defining feature of the Master of Education in Instruction is its focus on the practice of teaching. Designed specifically with the needs of the classroom teacher in mind, the program aims to translate the knowledge and skills of resident faculty into experiences that will help practicing teachers become more effective professionals. Graduates of the program will emerge as exceptional instructors, current in their fields and prepared to assume positions as role models and opinion leaders in their schools.
The key planning assumption for the selection of the courses in this program is based on one of the most fundamental principles of adult education: adult learners respond to educational experiences that have direct relevance to their personal and professional lives. Accordingly, courses are designed specifically to relate to the professional lives of teachers. A weekend model of instruction is employed to accommodate the schedules of most participants and each course is delivered over three or four weekends.
Students are required to complete 30 credits for the master's degree program - 24 credits in core, required courses and 6 credits in electives. These 6 credits in electives can also be transferred from any accredited college or university, as approved by the academic advisor.
