Preparing to Teach - Video Conferencing

Daily Classroom Procedures

  • Try to get to class 10 minutes before your class starts
  • Select level of difficulty on the instructor control panel
  • Size document camera, get computer ready (PowerPoint, other apps)
  • Put on microphone as time for class approaches – approx 6” from chin
  • Note: this microphone is only for off grounds, you must speak to the classroom students
  • At the time listed for your class to begin – select the instructor camera
  • See yourself on the left hand monitor at the back of the room
  • See distance transmission on the right hand monitor in the back of the room
  • Proceed with class (try to use instructor camera or picture in picture as much as you can, consider what the off grounds students must watch)
  • END OF CLASS - At the time your class is scheduled to end just press RETURN until you see the logo for your class on the screen. This turns off your microphone.
  • Remove microphone
  • Unlike on ground classes, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you end classes on time. There are only 15 minutes between classes and the next instructor and students need to get settled.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Remember to “clear” if you use the video writer. Also, the “super” button (next to the “clear” button) must be lit for the off grounds students to see your highlights. This should be set but will shut off if any changes are made (i.e. color).
    • The zoom for the overhead camera is on the desktop (not control panel)
    • Paper and pens are available for your, they are located under the desktop
    • If you plan to use a laptop you have not tested with the classroom connections, be sure to inform Paul or Irene.
    • Technical problems – do not spend class time on site “disconnections.” All classes are recorded for those who cannot receive them.
